Streaming Video Library Usage Tips

Using the Notes Feature

The Notes feature for Streaming Video Library courses requires you to download a rich text format document so you may take notes.  By default, Internet Explorer 7 prevents automatic prompting for file downloads, and this prevents you from accessing the document when you click on the Notes button.

There are a few different options for correcting this issue.  First, you can open your favorite word processing application and take notes from there, instead of using the notes feature within the course.  Second, you can hold down the ctrl key and click on the Notes button at the same time to force the download window to appear.  Once the download window appears, select the option to open and you will be able to take notes!  Third, you can adjust your security settings for Internet Explorer 7 to allow prompting for downloads.  For this last step please see the documentation below.

The picture above represents an overview of the steps taken to adjust Internet Explorer 7's default security settings to allow prompting for file downloads. Please note that each of the windows displayed in the image will not appear on your screen at one time. Some of the windows will only appear after you have completed the action listed before.

  1. Click on Tools
  2. Click on Internet Options
  3. The Internet Options Window Appears
  4. Click on the Security Tab in the Internet Options window
  5. Click on the Internet Icon
  6. Click on Custom Level (After Selecting the Internet Zone mentioned above)
  7. The Security Settings Window Appears
  8. Navigate to the Downloads Section, and click in the circle next to Enable
  9. Hit OK, then when a box appears stating "are you sure you want to change the settings for this zone?" Select Yes.
